Dr. Zeeshan Afzal completed his dermatology fellowship at University of Texas Health San Antonio under the tutelage of Dr. Richard Usatine, a world-renown author, teacher and leader in the field of Family Medicine & Dermatology. He is skilled at the innovative use of dermatoscopy, a tool used by dermatologist to diagnose various skin conditions, avoiding unnecessary surgical procedures. Dr. Afzal has a passion for dermatology and recognizes the great need for more dermatologist in the Rio Grande Valley. He hopes to use his dermatology fellowship experience and expertise to benefit his community.
Dr. Afzal served as Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Long School of Medicine where he taught dermatology to medical students and residents affiliated with the University of Texas Health San Antonio.
Prior to this, he completed his Family Medicine residency at McAllen Medical Center. He is board certified in Family Medicine. During his time at MMC, he was recognized as intern of the year and granted leadership position as assistant chief resident during his final year. He was recognized for his research and academic contributions at the UTRGV Research Symposium on August 2017. He notably gave an address at the Infectious Disease Society of America’s IDSAWeek 2017 in San Francisco on endemic typhus. Dr. Afzal attends the annual conferences hosted by the American Academy of Dermatology to continue learning from the nation’s best dermatologists and stay up to date on the latest advances in dermatology. His goal is to provide evidence based high quality dermatology care to the Rio Grande Valley.
